CV Weekly Update

Our day began with a lively morning meeting where we discussed our thrilling plan: building boats to float on the River Quaggy! The children eagerly dove into the creative process, focusing on designing unique boats. Using a variety of materials, they constructed their vessels—some even added little plastic animals to create their very own Noah’s Ark. They were curious to see if the boats would sink or float so they tested their creations in a bowl of water.

Once our boats were ready, we bundled up in wellies and waterproofs and set off for the Quaggy. After a short walk, we found the sunny spot by the willows and set up camp. Lunch on the blankets was a great way to refuel before heading to the stream to test our boats. The children were delighted to see their creations float in the water. A boat, tied with a string, got stuck at one point but teamwork saved the day as the children tested their solutions to rescue it.

Meanwhile, two boys tried their hand at magnet fishing and came across magnetic sand and a few other treasures from the stream while the girls enjoyed an imaginative and fun game of tour guide. One child made an exciting discovery: an old motorbike stuck to the bank of the stream. With the help of friends, they lifted it up and... off he drove! Just kidding, of course—but it was a special moment of happiness and pride.

Back at base camp, the children enjoyed hammocking, playing cards, drawing and crafting with whatever natural materials they could find. Our time at the Quaggy was a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.

As we wrapped up the day back at the club, everyone took turns sharing their favourite moments from the trip and the early signs of spring they had spotted. From the budding trees and daffodils to the active centipedes and other small creatures, the children were delighted to see nature waking up around them. We’re already looking forward to next week, when we’ll continue our lava volcano project and host an Open Day in the afternoon. Happy Spring Equinox, everyone!

Feel free to get in touch if you're interested in joining our new Monday group or attending our Open Day on Tuesday. We'd love to have you!
