Saying Goodbye to CV Stockwell
Two weeks ago we held our last session at Stockwell. You can read all about what happened that day and how the group came together below.
We started our final day in Stockwell with a mix of crafts and a card game introduced last week, which the boys were eager to play again several times. The craft activities included creating Halloween spiders, radioactive bottles and a chatterbox. Meanwhile, the girls picked up a book full of Lego designs and soon chose a page featuring a library design and excitedly worked together to build their own Lego library.
During our morning meeting, we shared plans for the day and reflected on some of our favourite memories from past sessions. Then we moved on to the main project: making garlic bread. Each child prepared their own butter mix with garlic, freshly chopped parsley and coriander, before spreading it onto slices of bread. The bread went into the oven and we all sat down together to enjoy the warm, delicious treat. The children told me they felt confident they could make the bread again at home and agreed the trickiest part of the task was peeling and crushing the garlic.
After lunch, the children headed outside to play. They were especially drawn to the double swing, where they invented a game that involved picking up scattered shoes while swinging. A touching moment came when two girls rested quietly on the big swing, with one asking to pause their conversation so she could listen to the birds. For a few minutes, they simply enjoyed the sounds of nature together.
Our parent volunteer brought a pigeon that had strings tangled around its feet and she showed the children how to gently untangle them, sharing interesting facts about pigeons with anyone curious. Later, they played a lively zombie game, with zombies trying to catch the non-zombies in a fun chase.
As we neared the end of the day, the children enthusiastically created a thank you card for the playground manager, filling it with their own drawings of the playground. Not stopping there, they went on to make another card for the facilitators and a card for the rescued pigeon as well. We ended the day with a goodbye party, enjoying fruit, homemade cake and snacks together. It was a truly wonderful and memorable day, filled with good vibes, fun, learning and, in the end, heartfelt goodbyes. ❤️
Thank you all for being part of Children's Village Stockwell! Wishing you and your children the very best and hoping we can meet again one day. And a special thanks to Marlena and Marta for being such awesome facilitators of this wonderful space for children! ❤️
